Jaques Tissot - Short List of Works

Jaques Tissot was born in 1836 and died in 1902. He lived a full life and was usually surrounded by one controversy or other. The controversy usually related to his art although there were a few personal controversies. He loved to paint women in costumes, and many critics thought this was simply a bad reflection on the nouveau-rich. These criticisms did not seem to matter to him. He was an enigmatic man who made friends easily and an excellent host who entertained often. His shrewd commercial instincts that he learned form his father stood with him all of his life. He was able to produce an income almost anywhere.

The following is a date listing of some of Jaques Tissots works:

1878October.
1869At the Rifle Range.

1885The Traveller.
1885The Artist's Ladies.

He was from a devout Roman Catholic family and when he met and fell in love with an Irish divorcee, and lived openly with her, the tongues wagged. He was totally committed to Kathleen until she committed suicide after a prolonged illness. He was devastated and even his painting style changed to more religious works.

His paintings hang in galleries around the world. Many of his paintings have been produced as prints or cards and are available from many places.

The possibility of obtaining any of the great artworks by this artist is quite small, although from time to time they become available, but usually one needs to bid against international galleries for the artwork. Prints and cards have been produced by many suppliers of these works and other masters.
